Whether they're your everyday trainers or your workout trainers, all kinds of trainers get smelly after a while. Not to mention the grubby marks (especially if they're white!) and dirty laces.
Washing trainers by hand
What you'll need:
- A soft shoe brush or toothbrush
- KINN washing up liquid
- KINN Eco-friendly laundry detergent
- Hot water
Step 1
Brush your shoes with the brush to get rid of any dirt, dried mud or debris.
Step 2
Mix warm water with a regular cap size of detergent and a squirt or two of washing up liquid in a large bucket, sink or even the bath. Make sure there is enough water in there to fully submerge your trainers.
Step 3
Brush the mixture into the stains, then rinse with clean water. Repeat this step if the stains don't go the first time.
Step 4
To clean the inside, use your brush to get the mixture into the inner soles. If the soles are removable, take them out and brush them too.
Step 5
Leave your trainers to dry completely before wearing them. It's quick if you leave them in the sun as it's quick and can help get rid of remaining smells. Alternatively, scrunch up some newspaper and place inside the shoe to help soak up some of the water.
Washing trainers in a washing machine
What you'll need:
- A washing machine
- A soft shoe brush or toothbrush
- KINN Eco-friendly laundry detergent
Step 1
Brush your shoes with the brush to get rid of any dirt, dried mud or debris.
Step 2
Pre-treat any tough stains by brushing in some laundry detergent and warm water mix.
Step 3
Remove the laces from your trainers, and put them with your trainers in a pillow case. You can also add towels to protect the drum. Fill the washing machine with laundry detergent (enough for a small load).
Step 4
If your trainers are very smelly, add in 1-2 tbsp vinegar with the detergent.
Step 5
Run the machine on a cold setting and your shoes dry properly before wearing.
