By now we all know that it's important to make changes and swaps that are better for us and the planet, but sometimes I can feel like a minefield knowing what swaps to make and also picking swaps that are easy to accommodate into your life. Not everyone has the time to meal prep, start a compost heap (or the space) and make cleaning products from scratch, and that is ok! That is why companies like ours (KINN Living) exist, to help make your eco-friendly choices easier to make and stick to.
So what can you do in 2021 to kick start your eco-friendly life? Read below for our top 5 tips.
-
Choose eco-friendly and natural cleaning products
This is one of the easiest ways you can make your life a little more planet friendly. By choosing to use eco-friendly companies you are choosing to not only better your immediate surroundings, but you're also sending a message as a consumer that planet friendly products are wanted and needed. (try and watch out for those companies that are owned by conglomerates that might not have the best practise at heart)

Meatless Meals
You don't have to go fully vegan I you don't want to, but by choosing to swap some of your meals to meatless options you will be helping to cut down carbon emissions from meat farming. If you really don't want to give up the meat then choose sustainable and locally grown meat, avoid factory farmed meat (for multiple reasons, least of all your own health, the health of the animals reared there and the health of the planet). You'd be surprised how easy it is to make meals without meat and a lot of meat substitutes are starting to become very good!
- Do your laundry on a lower temperature
Not all laundry needs to be washed on a high temperature, and a lot of laundry detergents (like our own) are formulated to work just as well on a low heat as they can on a high heat. So much energy is was wasted to heat the water to higher temperatures that the simple act of simply lowering the temperature of your machine will help to cut CO2 emissions. -
Learn to love leftovers!
Did you know that over 7.3 million tonnes of food is wasted in the UK every year? It's not just a colossal waste of money, but it's also adding to amount go CO2 that is created when this food waste hits landfill. By learning to love your leftovers, and by planning your shopping around what you will use, can be reused in another meal and so on, you can help to stop this waste of food and its inevitable journey to a landfill. (and did you know that a lot of glass is not recycled but simply makes its way to landfill as a cover!) One way to make shopping more efficient and less wasteful is to not go to the shops hungry and to make a list before you go, or if it's possible have your food shop delivered!
- Don't drive... if it's possible.
We aren't telling you to ditch your cars, but how if we are being honest there are a lot of journeys we take where we don't need to use our car. How often have you simply jumped in the car to nip somewhere only a few minutes away? If it's possible to walk, ride a bike safely or take public transport than opt for that option and keep your driving to a minimum. And when you do drive make sure you keep your speed low and that your tyres are well inflated, if you're able to why not look into electric or hybrid cars?
