Whilst you may be following a great skincare routine, quite often with the change of seasons dry skin can become a problem, and if you suffer from psoriasis or eczema this can be painful and quite often a more intensive skincare routine is needed. Our organic body care range was developed by a pioneer in the aromatherapy industry and founder of the Aromatherapy Association of America, so we know a little thing or two when it comes to what oils and creams are great for skin. But, the hydrating the skin isn't the only solution and combative measure you can take.
- Baths and Showers
We know it's tempting to jump in the shower or bath and keep the temperature hot. Especially in the colder months. But, just like our hair our skin is better off in lower temperatures. So rather than turning the thermostat full blast try to take warm showers, and if you're having a bath then add nourishing essential oils to help hydrate skin.
- After the shower
We'd recommend investing in good quality towels that don't add any excess stress to skin when drying, and like the skin on our face, the skin on our body will benefit from being patted dry rather than rubbed dry.
- Make sure you moisturise!
It's amazing how many people skip this simple step when it comes to the skin on our body, but if you want it to be soft and healthy, then nourish it with good quality oils and creams. Personally we would always opt for a certified organic body lotion with high quality ingredients then chemically laced moisturisers (often prescribed to those suffering with skin problems!... Our co-founder's husband suffered from eczema for many years, and as soon as we threw out the garbage from the pharmacy and introduced high quality ingredients he's had no issues).
- It doesn't have to be fragrance free
There is the old belief that it is the scent or fragrance of a product that damages your skin, but in most instances this is because that fragrance is a chem lab concoction of artificial scents. If you want to smell like roses once you're moisturised then opt for a product that contains real essential oils and stay away from the synthetics. Choosing certified organic is the easiest way to make sure that what you're getting is the real deal and not a chemical imitation.
- Gloves!
Wear them. Wear them when it's cold outside, wear them when you are doing the washing up of cleaning. Our hands are put through so much daily so it's good to protect them as much as you can.
- Humidity
Humidity is great for our skin, so we recommend buying a humidifier to keep the air from becoming to dry. When in the workplace or traveling we're often exposed to dry air conditioning, so be sure to carry a small tube of lotion or cream with you incase you need a little boost. But don't moisturise too much, as over moisturising can also lead to dry skin.
- Avoid irritants
This goes without saying, but there are some irritants we don't even think of, like the quality of the fabric our clothes are, or the laundry detergent we wash them in. There are a myriad of hidden ingredients in laundry products, everything from SLS to artificial fragrances and dyes, to animal fats! So we recommend using a more natural alternative, or opting for a hypoallergenic product.
