Vegan Tofu Burgers Recipe

Believe it or not, this tofu burger is far from bland. In fact, you might even agree with us that it's tastier than a conventional beef burger!

Makes about 6 burgers!

Ingredients

For the tofu burger:
  • 400g firm tofu
  • 100g breadcrumbs (use GF if necessary, or make from any kind of bread)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
For the sauce:
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 230ml tinned tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp date syrup (you can use any kind of sweetener)
  • 2 tbsp tamari sauce (or GF soy sauce)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • Salt & pepper to taste
To serve:
  • Salad lettuce, tomato, etc.
  • Burger buns (opt for GF if needed)

Method

    For the burgers:
    • Blend the tofu in a food processor until smooth
    • In a bowl, combine the tofu with the breadcrumbs, salt & pepper by hand
    • Divide the mixture into 6 parts and flatten to make the patties
    • Heat up olive oil in a frying pan and place the patties in the pan
    • Cook on a medium heat for 10-15 minutes (flip halfway through) until golden brown and crispy on both sides!
    For the sauce:
    • Heat up olive oil in a pan on a medium heat
    • Add the onion and cook until softened
    • Add the tomatoes, date syrup, tamari, vinegar and salt & pepper
    • Then, bring to the boil and simmer on a low heat for 10-15 minutes
    • Taste and adjust seasoning to taste.

    To serve:

    • Place the burgers in the buns, add the sauce, lettuce et voila!!
